Pokémon generations

Every generation of Pokémon released in Pokémon GO, from Kanto (Gen 1) through Paldea (Gen 9). Each card links to the full species list with stats, max CP, and dex entries.

Gen 1
151 / 151
Kanto · 2016 in GO

The original 151. Pokémon GO launched with these in July 2016. Many Gen 1 mons remain meta-relevant: Dragonite, Snorlax, Lapras, and Mewtwo still anchor raid + PvP rosters.

Gen 2
99 / 100
Johto · 2017 in GO

The Johto release added 100 species in early 2017 — including Tyranitar, Blissey, Umbreon, and the legendary beasts Raikou/Entei/Suicune. Tyranitar in particular became a long-running raid pick.

Gen 3
134 / 135
Hoenn · 2017 in GO

Hoenn brought 135 species in late 2017, including the weather trio (Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza) — three top-tier raid attackers + Master League staples. Salamence, Metagross, and Slaking also debuted.

Gen 4
100 / 107
Sinnoh · 2018 in GO

The Sinnoh release in late 2018 added 107 species and shifted the meta hard — Dialga and Garchomp anchored Master League, Giratina-Origin became a top Ghost-attacker, and the Ultra League meta still bends around Giratina-Altered today.

Gen 5
147 / 156
Unova · 2019 in GO

Unova entered Pokémon GO in 2019-2020 with 156 species. Excadrill, Conkeldurr, Haxorus, and Hydreigon became raid + PvP picks; the Tao trio (Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem) headline Master League.

Gen 6
60 / 72
Kalos · 2020 in GO

Kalos started rolling out in late 2020 with 72 species. Xerneas (Fairy) and Yveltal (Dark/Flying) became Master League meta, while Talonflame redefined Ultra League fast-pressure leads.

Gen 7
83 / 88
Alola · 2022 in GO

Alola began rolling out in 2022 with 88 species + Ultra Beasts. Tapu Fini and Talonflame variants joined the PvP meta; Necrozma forms (Dawn Wings, Dusk Mane, Ultra) are top-tier Psychic raid attackers.

Gen 8
80 / 96
Galar · 2022 in GO

The Galar release across 2022-2024 brought 96 species. Annihilape (Fighting/Ghost) shook up Great League; Zacian (Crowned Sword) is one of the strongest Master League attackers; Falinks + Zarude expanded the Fighting/Dark roster.

Gen 9
111 / 120
Paldea · 2025 in GO

Paldea started in 2025 and is still rolling out species. Lechonk, Tinkatink, Tatsugiri, and the Treasures of Ruin are recent additions. Expect this generation to shift the meta significantly as more species debut through 2026-2027.
